Liz Oyer was part of a DoJ committee reviewing applications to restore gun rights filed by people who lost them after being convicted of a relevant crime. Speaking to the New York Times, Oyer said she recommended that Gibson request be denied due to uncertainty about his conviction, insisting it was about “safety” and not Gibson’s politics.

Despite being an acting special ambassador to Hollywood, Mel Gibson, the actor and Oscar-winning director who pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of battering his ex-girlfriend in 2011, still doesn’t have the right to own a gun.

The US Department of Justice is still calling for Google to sell its web browser Chrome, according to a Friday court filing.  The DOJ first proposed that

"Google’s illegal conduct has created an economic goliath, one that wreaks havoc over the marketplace to ensure that—no matter what occurs—Google always wins," the DOJ filing says. To that end, the government maintains that Chrome must go if the playing field is to be made level again.

In its latest filing, the DOJ argues that forcing Google to sell Chrome would break its grip on a key search gateway, opening the door for real competition. It also kept an earlier proposal to stop Google from cutting deals with companies like Apple, phone manufacturers, and Mozilla to lock in its search engine as the default.
