As killings and hunger soar in Haiti, a political power struggle has cost the prime minister his job, another setback for a country plagued by gang violence.

The process of replacing the prime minister is likely to add even more turmoil to a rocky democratic transition process in the Caribbean nation.

Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille has been fired by the country's ruling council less than six months after he took office. An executive order, signed by eight of the council's nine members, named businessman and former Haiti Senate candidate Alix Didier Fils-Aimé as Conille's replacement.
