NASA's acting administrator, Sean Duffy, plans to accelerate the construction of a nuclear reactor that could be used on the moon and alter the way NASA will partner with industry to replace the aging International Space Station.

Transportation Secretary and acting NASA Administrator Sean Duffy is expected to announce a fast-tracked plan Tuesday to deploy a nuclear reactor on the moon by 2030 — five years ahead of a joint plan by China and Russia.

The agency is seeking companies that can launch a reactor by 2030, around the time China plans to send its first astronaut to the moon.
