A sprawling winter storm system will hit the western U.S. hard this week with heavy snow and dangerous travel conditions.
At 3:23 a.m. on Monday, the National Weather Service released an updated winter storm warning in effect until 1 p.m. for Lackawanna and Luzerne counties.
Over 40 million people remained under a blizzard warning on Monday morning, after the storm dumped more than a foot of snow in some places and strangled transit in major metropolitan areas.
The snow forecast map by Dan Zarrow, chief meteorologist for NJ 101.5 FM radio and the Townsquare New Jersey Weather Network, has the hardest hit areas along the southern coast, with heavy snowfall of more than 12 to 20 inches of snow, with blizzard conditions.
At 6:28 a.m. on Saturday, the National Weather Service released a winter storm watch valid from Sunday 7 a.m. until Monday 6 p.m. for Greene, Columbia, Ulster and Dutchess counties.
An updated winter storm watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Sunday at 2:04 a.m. valid from 10 p.m. until Tuesday 7 a.m. for Northern Erie and Southern Erie.
