Xiaomi Corp. confirmed that one of its SU7 electric vehicles was involved in an accident on an expressway in China. Local media reported that three people died in the incident that’s likely to spark scrutiny over the smart driving software deployed in many of today’s cars.

The CEO of the company behind a driverless car model in China has spoken out after three people died in a crash involving their car. Three girls lost their lives on March 29 after an SU7 electric car made by Xiaomi Automobile Corp crashed while operating on the Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) intelligent-assisted driving mode.

The fatal crash has raised alarms about the risks of smart driving. As 2025 is regarded as the first year of nationwide smart driving, advanced driver-assistance capabilities have become a key factor for Chinese automakers to stay competitive.
