John Klingberg's potential NHL comeback has piqued a lot of interest, which means there's some unfortunate news regarding his chances of reuniting with Toronto.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly expressed interest in former Leaf John Klingberg. The Swedish defenceman hasn’t played an NHL game in over a year.

Per Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos, the team would certainly have an interest New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield. The 32-year-old, who averages 17:37 minutes per game playing on the club's bottom pairing and penalty kill, is in the second season of a seven-year deal at a manageable $3.5 million AAV.

The Leafs' pool has taken a hit in both quality and quantity after trading away many draft picks over the years.
