LONDON — Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced Tuesday that Britain will formally recognize the state of Palestine in September — unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza and commits itself to a two-state solution before then.

A growing numbers of lawmakers in Starmer's Labour Party have asking him to recognize a Palestinian state to put pressure on Israel.

Starmer said on Tuesday that Britain was prepared to recognise a Palestinian state in September at the United Nations General Assembly in response to growing public anger over the images of starving children in Gaza.
