The Tampa Bay Rays snapped a 7-game road losing streak Monday, getting great pitching, timely hitting and solid defense in a 4-2 win over the New York Yankees.

Nick Fortes, a DeLand native, will swap Sunshine State teams as the Tampa Bay Rays have acquired him from the Miami Marlins.

The trade was announced shortly after the Rays ended a four-game losing streak with a 4-2 win at Yankee Stadium.

The Rays opted for youth and control in a trade with Miami, signaling a shift in priorities behind the plate heading into the season’s stretch run.

The Marlins are sending Nick Fortes to the Tampa Bay Rays, as first reported Monday by the Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal. Miami is receiving outfielder prospect Matthew Etzel in return for Fortes, according to Fansided’s Robert Murray. Etzel is ranked as the Rays’ No. 28 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline.

Keith Meister, MD, is set to perform elbow surgery on Manuel Rodríguez, a pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, on Aug. 8. The surgery is expected to repair Mr. Rodríguez’s flexor tendon in his right elbow.

Right-hander Shane Baz was strong for the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday, giving up just two earned runs in a 2-1 loss to Cincinnati.
