December averaged more than 3° below normal in Portland and nearly 5° below normal in Bangor. Despite the cold, snowfall has been near or slightly below normal across much of the state.
The National Weather Service is warning that the quickly changing conditions could make for messy commutes, especially Wednesday morning.
Snow continues to fall across Northern Maine today, with gusty winds and falling temperatures across the whole state. Another round of snow will pass through Saturday afternoon, but with some rain along the coast.
