I'd also like to know the best partitioning scheme for this setup to make the most use of the SSD (and prolong its life). I would suggest one large partition and using swapfiles.

1] Are you selecting the right partition? Make sure that you are selecting the right partition. If your SSD or HDD is showing multiple partitions, select the Primary Partition.

is partition alignment just for ssd? if not, is there any advantage for non-ssd? i've heard of the paragon alignment tool..doing it.. though prob not free and don't know if it's good.
