The SEC endured a rough showing this season, but 'too-early' top 25 rankings shower the conerence with hype for 2025. Too much hype?

Released on Thursday, the Alabama Crimson Tide's spot in the 2025 SEC softball preseason coaches' poll has been revealed.

Texas Tech made its Top 25 season debut at No. 22 after beating Cincinnati and Oklahoma State to run its Big 12 winning streak to four games. Vanderbilt entered the poll at No. 24 for the first time since Dec. 7, 2015, as the women's team also cracked the poll this week for the first time since 2014.

LSU has posted a solid overall record of 12-7 so far this season but only has one win in six tries against fellow SEC teams. The Bayou Bengals have lost two in a row coming in, to the top-25-ranked Texas A&M Aggies and Alabama Crimson Tide, respectively.

The Vols likely would catapult onto the No. 1 seed line with a win at Auburn, but it would carry weight beyond the immediate effect on bracketology. A win at Auburn would give Tennessee two marquee road wins on its NCAA Tournament profile come Selection Sunday. The other was a 66-64 win at Illinois On dec. 14.

Auburn basketball announced Friday that it'll play in the 2025, 2026 and 2027 Players Era Men’s Championship in Las Vegas, an early season MTE that debuted this season.

The SEC held 10 of the 25 spots in the newest AP Top 25 poll in college basketball, including 3 of the top 5 spots.

Johni Broome is back, and Auburn is still on top of the SEC. The Tigers picked up their 11th straight win on Saturday night when they beat Tennessee 53-51. It marked Broome’s first game back from an ankle injury. He had a team-high 16 points and 13 rebounds off the bench in the win, which marked the lowest point total the Tigers have had all year.

Auburn joins other new participants Baylor, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Kansas, Michigan, St. Joseph’s, St. John’s and Syracuse. They will join returners Alabama, Creighton, Houston, Notre Dame, Oregon, Rutgers, San Diego State and Texas A&M in 2025.
