Cold Weather and Winter Storm Alerts are in effect for the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina and Virginia. At least one storm is expected to develop across the South this week. At this point, the track is not expected to be close enough to bring significant snow, but light snow will be possible in our southernmost communities.
This comes as an arctic front entered the region on Sunday night, allowing very cold and dry air to move into central North Carolina this week.
A series of disturbances in the atmosphere is sending the polar vortex south (again) next week with a burst of even colder Arctic air than last week.
