A winter storm prompted a National Weather Service office in Louisiana to issue a first-ever blizzard warning. The storm is causing dangerous conditions from Texas to North Carolina.
Blizzards are set to bring heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain all the way along the Gulf Coast from Texas to North Carolina - conditions usually only seen further north.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A rare frigid storm charged through Texas and the northern Gulf Coast on Tuesday, blanketing New Orleans and Houston with snow that closed highways, grounded nearly all flights and canceled school for more than a million students more accustomed to hurricane dismissals than snow days.
Cold Weather and Winter Storm Alerts are in effect for the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina and Virginia. At least one storm is expected to develop across the South this week. At this point, the track is not expected to be close enough to bring significant snow, but light snow will be possible in our southernmost communities.
This comes as an arctic front entered the region on Sunday night, allowing very cold and dry air to move into central North Carolina this week.
A series of disturbances in the atmosphere is sending the polar vortex south (again) next week with a burst of even colder Arctic air than last week.
