FRANKLIN, Ind. — An Alabama man, who previously called Johnson County home, was convicted Thursday for child sex crimes. Mark LaPlante, 51, of Grant, Alabama, was convicted by a Johnson County jury on Jan. 16 for two felony counts of child molestation.

An Alabama man was convicted of high-level child molestation charges by a Johnson County jury on Wednesday. Mark LaPlante, 51, was found guilty of child molesting, both as a Level 1 and Level 4 felony, by a jury in Johnson Superior Court 3. LaPlante, of Grant, Alabama and formerly of Franklin, was charged in October 2022.

A Starbucks employee was attacked by a customer’s pet monkey, Alabama police say. The incident happened Jan. 10, the Mobile Police Department said in an email Sunday. The animal and its owner were gone by the time officers arrived, but investigators pieced together what happened.
