STARKVILLE — Mississippi State basketball's lead over Ole Miss fluctuated wildly, but it remained enough in the end. The No. 18 Bulldogs beat the No. 21 Rebels 84-81 on Saturday in overtime.

They are still a very strong team, however, as they currently sit at No. 15 in the AP Top 25, six spots higher then Ole Miss. Mississippi State also has a win over Memphis, who defeated the Rebels, and a convincing win over 14-3 Vanderbilt.

The Rebels fell behind 14-2 early on Saturday, and much of the first half seemed to be in Mississippi State's favor. Ole Miss was outrebounded by a wide margin before halftime (and finished the game 51-29 in that category), opening up the door for a lot of second-chance opportunities for the Bulldogs.

Madison Scott scored a career-high 30 points as Ole Miss women's basketball separated in the fourth quarter to defeat Mississippi State.

STARKVILLE — Ole Miss women's basketball made enough winning plays in the fourth quarter to earn a rivalry win. The Rebels beat Mississippi State 71-63 on Sunday at the Humphery Coliseum.

The University of Mississippi Lady Rebels took on their rival school the Mississippi State University Lady Bulldogs Sunday.

Ole Miss Rebels women's basketball has had an up-and-down experience so far in conference play, but they picked up a road conference win on Sunday over in-state foe Mississippi State in Starkville by a final score of 71-63.

Bates scored 26 points and Grill added 25 as No. 22 MU held off the No. 16 Rebels (15-5, 4-3), winning 83-75 in a Southeastern Conference showdown of ranked teams. Next up: The Tigers are back in action Saturday, Feb. 1, with a trip to Starkville, Miss., to face Mississippi State. Tipoff is set for noon Central Time.
