Voters head to the polls on Nov. 4 in a special election for U.S. House District 18, a Houston City Council race, 17 Texas amendments, and more.

For the 212,000-plus voters who cast ballots during the early voting period, the Cy-Fair ISD school board race and a special election in Texas' 18th Congressional District appear to have been the most significant drivers for turnout.

During an interview on "CBS Sunday Morning," the " Jay Kelly " star, who wrote a New York Times op-ed in 2024 calling on Democrats to replace Joe Biden as their presidential nominee, reflected on former Vice President Kamala Harris ' election loss to President Donald Trump.

Christian Menefee, the county attorney of Harris County, and attorney Amanda Edwards advanced to the runoff, NBC News projects.

Harris had been an active participant heading into Election Day. Over the past six weeks, she backed Zohran Mamdani for New York City mayor, endorsed Mikie Sherrill for New Jersey governor and stumped for California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s redistricting referendum.

Sherrill won in the three New Jersey counties with the largest Latino populations—she carried Passaic by 15 points (Trump won by three points in 2024), she won Hudson County by 50 points (Harris won by 28) and she won Cumberland by four points, equal to Trump’s win there in 2024, according to NBC.

California voters approved Proposition 50 on Tuesday, Nov. 4, in a statewide special election that was announced less than three months prior. And in about a year, Californians will be back at the polls.
