News of the policy being enforced on the Mustang GTD emerged late last week and was soon confirmed by Ford. Much like the GT, those fortunate owners of the Mustang GTD must “agree to confidential terms and conditions that include a commitment to maintain ownership for two years.”

The GTD's buyer agreement says no flipping for at least two years, but we bet some will break the rules anyway.

Ford CEO Jim Farley is adamant that the V8-powered Ford Mustang still has a place in the modern car market. Even as Dodge closed the books on the Charger and Challenger, the Mustang got another shot at eight-cylinder life with the seventh-generation “S650” lineup. However, the Charger is back as a Daytona EV and it’s gunning for the Mustang.

Much like the Ford GT supercar that came before it, the Ford Mustang GTD is being sold with a big caveat. The automaker has confirmed new owners must agree not to sell their car within the first two years of ownership.

Ford has imposed a restriction on buyers of the Mustang GTD, prohibiting resale of the car for at least two years.

Ford already has experience combatting car flippers, but people still seem surprised the Mustang GTD will be subject to a mountain of restrictions. It’s almost like everyone has forgotten how selective and provisional the Ford GT buying process was just a few short years ago.
