James Nicholas completed an extraordinary journey from Local Qualifying to making the cut at this year's U.S. Open, but it did come with a cost. Which meant any profit from the staggering prize money on offer was significantly hampered.

On Saturday morning, the USGA announced the purse breakdown for professionals returning 72-hole scores. All ties shall be rounded to the nearest dollar, with any remainders increasing or decreasing the final paid position. If there are no ties, four players will make over $1 million while the top 37 spots will receive over $100K.

The winner of the U.S. Open golf tournament in 2025 will earn $4.3 million as part of a $21.5 million purse, according to the PGA Tour.
