White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt declined to name the administrator of the Department of Government Efficiency during Tuesday’s press briefing. By all indications, Elon Musk has been leading DOGE and the Trump administration’s mission to shrink the size of the federal government and cut allegedly wasteful or fraudulent spending.

The billionaire adviser to the president is sitting in on the meeting with the heads of agencies such as the state department and Pentagon.

It was not immediately clear when Gleason was formally named to the position. The White House identified Gleason as the acting DOGE administrator shortly after White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt repeatedly declined Tuesday afternoon to reveal who's in charge of DOGE during a briefing with reporters.
