The leader of the CJNG cartel Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as "El Mencho" died on Sunday during an operation to arrest him in Mexico.
"After the US eliminated a top Cartel leader in Mexico today, Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) has retaliated by storming the Guadalajara Airport with armed gunmen. They are now taking American tourists hostage at nearby highways and hotels," she wrote.
Authorities said Mexican forces killed Ruben "El Mencho" Oseguera, the notorious Jalisco cartel leader who became Mexico's most wanted drug kingpin.
Amid the unrest, an alleged cartel message has surfaced online warning residents of Guadalajara and surrounding areas to remain indoors.
