Now that La Fiera is officially out of the summer tournament, it’s a great time to bring up the topic of multi-club ownership in Liga MX.

Back in March, FIFA announced it's decision to remove León from the inaugural, new-look Club World Cup because the team is owned by Grupo Pachuca, the same group that owns fellow Liga MX side and Club World Cup participant, Pachuca. Multi-ownership is prohibited under Club World Cup regulations.

So, with FIFA’s own decision upheld about their own tournament, León are now officially out, and will be replaced by either Los Angeles FC (LAFC) or another Liga MX side, Club América. These two are set to play a one-off playoff (play-in?) at the end of the month, at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on May 31.
