US Navy names DDG 146 Arleigh Burke destroyer after former US Senator
The vessel was named after former US Senator and naval officer Joseph Robert Kerrey, at a ceremony at the Intrepid Museum. US Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro said it was an honour to name vessel after Kerrey, who served with distinction in the Vietnam war.

The U.S. Navy has named its two newest Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers as the future USS Intrepid and USS Robert Kerrey. DDG-145 is the fifth ship to be called Intrepid while DDG-146 was named after Joseph Robert Kerrey, a former senator, Nebraska governor and naval officer, the Navy said Saturday.

Navy destroyer named after Bob Kerrey
First a bridge and now a Navy destroyer has been named after former Nebraska governor and U.S. Sen. Bob Kerrey. This week, Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro announced that the Navy’s newest Arleigh Burke-class Guided Missile Destroyer has been named the USS Robert Kerrey (DDG 146).
