The New York Yankees added some depth on Monday, signing Dominic Smith to a minor league deal, the YES Network’s Jack Curry reported. Smith, a first baseman and outfielder, played for the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds last season.

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the New York Yankees have signed first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith to a minor-league contract. Smith opened the 2024 season with the Boston Red Sox but was eventually shipped to Cincinnati.

Dom Smith, the former first-round pick of the Mets, has agreed to a minor league deal with the Yankees, The Post confirmed. Smith, 29, played in 93 games in the majors last season, split between the Reds and Red Sox. He had a .691 OPS.

Smith spent the 2024 season with the Red Sox and the Cincinnati Reds. During his time in Boston, Smith quickly became well-liked among the fans. But once Triston Casas was activated from the injured list Boston designated Smith for assignment before ultimately releasing him.

Besides Goldschmidt, the Yankees have Ben Rice on the 40-man roster as a lefty-hitting first baseman. They also have DJ LeMahieu, who can play first if not starting at third base, and Oswaldo Cabrera, who has played first.
