CORTINA D’AMPEZZO, Italy (AP) — Sitting in the middle of the Cortina course following her second fall in four days at the resort where she once dominated, Lindsey Vonn slammed the snow angrily with her right pole.
Lindsey Vonn was the victim of a crash in Italy and suffered some bruises during downhill training for the World Cup on Thursday. Vonn, an accomplished skier and one of the sport’s most celebrated, took a spill just before the end of the practice but escaped serious injury.
Sofia Goggia is leading a World Cup downhill on the course that will host women’s skiing at next year’s Milan-Cortina Olympics, while Lindsey Vonn was in 20th on Saturday. It’s Vonn’s first race back in Cortina after nearly six years of retirement — at age 40 with a new titanium knee.
