Soon, that may change. HTC just announced it's creating a Vive Deluxe Audio Strap to replace the headset's elastic headgear.
Here’s how it works. HTC's Deluxe Audio Strap (DAS) adds the built-in headphones to the HTC Vive VR headset, just like the Oculus Rift and the Samsung Odyssey.
This unfortunately prevents you from using over-ear headphones on the Vive, which is a bummer, but earbuds work just fine (as does HTC’s deluxe audio strap).
The Vive Pro is definitely a necessary step up from the wholly inadequate band that comes with the original Vive, and it's also a slight step up from the Deluxe Audio Strap HTC has already put out.
It’s similar to the Vive Deluxe Audio Strap, which is a $100 upgrade to the original Vive, and it does an excellent job of distributing the weight of the headset.
Like HTC's Deluxe Audio Strap (DAS) attachment for the Vive, the Vive Pro comes with built-in headphones, and they do a great job blocking out sound this time around.
The new strap uses the same dial-based tightening mechanism as the Deluxe Audio Strap and adds in extra padding at the back to help it fit snugly without squeezing the life out of your skull.
