Officials in Pakistan say flash floods triggered by heavy rains have killed at least 49 people in the northwest and elsewhere in the country over the past 24 hours.

The Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management says saturated ground caused the large tree to fall in East Ridge.

Forecasters say the system will track across the southwestern Gulf over the next day or two, before moving inland over southern Texas or northeastern Mexico Friday. Heavy rain, localized flooding, and gusty winds are expected across parts of the Gulf Coast.

An area of storms southwest of Texas, which was designated by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) as Invest 98L, now has a low chance of tropical development as it quickly approaches northeastern Mexico and south Texas but is still expected to drench the area with heavy rain Friday and into the weekend.
