OpenAI is teasing a big announcement on Thursday, and based on a not-so-subtle clue, it seems like the news will be the reveal of its long-awaited GPT-5 AI model. In a post on X, OpenAI announced a “LIVE5TREAM THURSDAY 10AM PT” — notice that the “s” in the word livestream is swapped for a “5.”

OpenAI's GPT-5, the latest installment of the AI technology that powered the ChatGPT juggernaut in 2022, is set for an imminent release, and users will scrutinize if the step up from GPT-4 is on par with the research lab's previous improvements.

OpenAI’s new open-weight models are gpt-oss-120b and gpt-oss-20b. The smaller model, gpt-oss-20b, can be run on a consumer laptop or powerful phone.
