US President Donald Trump's remark that his country spent $21m to boost voter turnout in India's elections has triggered a political slugfest in the country.He made the remark days after a team led by Elon Musk said it had cancelled the payout as part of its crackdown on a US agency providing foreign aid.

The USAID funded seven projects in India worth USD 750 million in India in FY 2023-24, but none of these were related to enhancing voter turnout in the country, as per a latest annual report of the Finance Ministry.

The report also revealed that USAID committed USD 97 million (around Rs 825 crore) during the fiscal year toward these projects.
