The defense in the second trial of Karen Read has rested its case, saying Read was framed for the killing of her Boston police officer boyfriend.

Karen Read proposed that she personally select which of the jurors would serve as alternates in her murder trial — an idea the judge denied.

Residents of Canton, Massachusetts are looking forward to restoring peace in the town that's been divided by the high-profile case.

“As it stands now, no competent defense counsel would call Mr. Proctor,” Jack Lu, a retired superior court judge, said in an interview before Read’s defense rested this week. “He has the ability to eviscerate the defense but without him they have a path to victory.”
