Kirk Ferentz and Iowa football weren't into the excuse-making business with the Hawkeyes' travel West to the Rose Bowl.

The Iowa head coach addressed reporters at the Rose Bowl after Friday's 20-17 loss to the Bruins.

In the Big Ten, Ferentz is near the middle of the pack in total pay. He ranks 8th out of 17 coaches with available salary data. Ferentz's $7 million sits in between Michigan State's Jonathan Smith ($7,250,000) and Minnesota's P.J. Fleck ($6,700,000).

Without graduate quarterback Cade McNamara and redshirt freshman signal-caller Marco Lainez, Iowa had to turn to redshirt sophomore quarterback Jackson Stratton after junior quarterback Brendan Sullivan exited with an ankle injury. After the loss, Iowa head football coach Kirk Ferentz updated Sullivan’s injury status.

The performance was a statement from an Iowa program that is trending toward yet another nine-win season. The Hawkeyes and new offensive coordinator Tim Lester ran the ball for 330 yards and 6.2 yards per carry, dominating Wisconsin in the area of the game that often decides the longtime rivalry.
