Miami Hurricanes men’s basketball head coach Jim Larrañaga – the winningest head coach in program history – has stepped down from his position in the middle of his 14th season in Coral Gables, Florida. His decision comes less than two years after he led Miami to its first men’s Final Four.

Larranaga is the winningest coach in program history and in the midst of his 14th season coaching Miami, where he has accrued a 274-174 overall record. His head-coaching resume dates back to the 1980s where he first became head coach at Bowling Green.

Boston College was down by as many as 19 points with 8:38 remaining in the first half, however the Eagles went on a 16-9 run down the stretch and cut their deficit to 12 heading into halftime. The run was led by center Chad Venning, who scored 11 of the team’s 16. In total, Venning tallied 17 points which led the team.

Jim Larrañaga has stepped down as the University of Miami basketball coach following a slow start to the 2024-25 season for the Hurricanes, two years after leading the program to its first-ever Final Four.

The 75-year-old Jim Larrañaga was replaced for the remainder of the season by associate head coach Bill Courtney — one of Larrañaga’s best friends for the past three decades or so.
