The Ted Striker character is an amalgam of the characters played by John Wayne and Robert Stack which makes Robert Stack's role in Airplane even more fun. The High and the Mighty along with Airport and Airport '75 are worthwhile purchases if you're a fan of Airplane.

Oct 4, 2019 · It's a commonly repeated piece of trivia that Airplane! is a direct parody of Zero Hour! specifically because most people think it's a parody of Airport or a genre parody of disaster movies in general. So I don't know if it was posted earlier this week, but it's said a lot. Sadly, it's still kind of needed. Lots of people still don't know.

I think it was Christmas Day 1980, my wife and 2 boys, age 6 and 2 were all sick with flu etc. I wasn't sick so she said, go somewhere and get away from us being sick. So I went to a movie theater, had no idea what was playing and it was Airplane, which I'd not heard of, I assumed it was like Airport etc.
