The resolution is low, the lenses are ‘last-generation,’ controller durability is not encouraging. A Quest 3 is an outright upgrade in every metric besides audio/mic and refresh rate, at like half the price.

Sep 30, 2023 · For the index and steamvr in general, it still feels like more of a hassle to get into for short periods of gaming. As an Index owner, I just ordered Varjo Aero now that they have slashed its price to $990. It seems a much better upgrade path than the Quest 3 given I can re-use the Valve controllers and light houses.

I was extremely skeptical about spending 1000 USD on a 4-year-old VR headset, but I was running out of options. Each headset I've used so far fell short in at least four different ways.

Jul 20, 2021 · Basically, there aren't as many problems as the internet makes it seem, and Valve is really good about fixing the problems that do happen. That being said, I think the hardware is just starting to show its age. When the Index was released, it was the headset of tomorrow, today and the price reflected that.
