The monorail system at Walt Disney World opened in 1971 with two routes (Magic Kingdom: Resort and Express) It was expanded to three lines (Magic Kingdom: Resort and Express, plus Epcot) in 1982. Currently the Epcot monorail is not running, hopefully that will change soon. The average speed of a monorail is 40 mph, the top speed 55 mph.
