This design was short-lived because MLJ Comics (now Archie Comics) complained that it looked too similar to their hero The Shield, who also had a triangular emblem on his chest. To avoid legal issues, Timely Comics (now Marvel) quickly redesigned Cap’s shield into the now-iconic circular shape, which first appeared in Captain America Comics #2 (1941)
