This week in 1833, Dry Dock No. 1 at the Charlestown Navy Yard officially opened, welcoming USS CONSTITUTION as its first vessel. Vice President Martin Van Buren was in attendance, while President Andrew Jackson, though in Boston, was too unwell to join.
